The Saga Continues...

After speaking with a good friend yesterday after Maddie's blood draw, I began to freak out. Actually, she freaked me out. What if due to her adhesion Maddie can't pee all the way and stuff has been getting backed up into her kidneys, or renal tubes? What if because I didn't know better I damaged her for life? Why has no Doc. thought to look into this?

She wound up calling her doc, only because she felt bad about freaking me out and they couldn't believe what happened, so I went there today for a second opinion. Apparently, the labial adhesion would almost prevent a bladder/kidney infection because she is so closed up nothing is getting past the barrier, so everything is essentially coming out clean. What worried the doc at this point was the high fever coupled with the high white blood cell count and no real answers, no ear infection, no cold like symptoms, etc.

So, we put a bag on M. to get a urine culture, but she was uncooperative and didn't pee until I'm sure 5 seconds after we took that bag off and walked out the door.

However, Doc is sending us tomorrow for a renal ultrasound to ensure that there is nothing "anatomically abnormal' which would cause a bladder/kidney or UT infection. And based on the other things going on (fever, et al) there was a rampant infection in her body somewhere caused by something. An abnormality....This could be tube twisting, blockage, etc. My gut says Maddie is just fine, but it feels good just to be sure. In 2 weeks we're going to run a urine culture to get a good reading on if everything is "cleaned out" so to speak.

So, for now, I'll just drink a beer and not think about tomorrow. Actually, the most daunting part of tomorrow is the 1 hr. 9 minute drive to the hospital I need to go to to take care of this, but we do what we do cuz we love them, right?

More On the Hospital

Ran today with Maddie this a.m for another blood draw for her iron levels at the hospital outpatient services. If they don't improve, she may need an iron supplement. Doc says they usually don't even do this blood draw before a year old but...yada yada yada.

Will keep everyone updated on the Divine Miss M's progress.

Checklist

Current Meds as Follows:

Nate: AM- Dose of Antibiotic, CHECK!
AM Dose of Motrin to keep fever down, CHECK!
AM Dose of Robitussin, CHECK

Afternoon: Dose of Robitussin, (Damn he fell asleep)

Still to do: Evening dose of Antibiotic
Evening dose of Motrin
Evening Dose of Robitussin

Maddie:
AM dose of Antibiotic, CHECK!
AM Dose of Vaginal hormonal Cream to open labia (which takes up to 4 WEEKS), CHECK!
AM Antibiotic for eye infection (which if the tear duct doesn't open by June will require a surgery to open) CHECK
Motrin: Not needed this a.m.

Afternoon dose of eye ointment, CHECK

Still to do: Follow morning protocol.

If you're counting and including fever reducers, that's 16 different meds distributed throughout the day (with multiple dosings)

And my husband had the NERVE to say he really doesn't get what it is I think I'm doing all day, or what do I do all day? (Besides, according to him, talk on the phone, which I really can't do because all our batteries die within 5 minutes).

I don't get paid enough for this crap!

Never A Dull Moment

I don't think you can get any more tired than I am right at this moment. Really.

Friday, Nate started a fever...it continued off and on all weekend, spiking as high as 102 +. Same thing with Maddie, but when her fever spiked 104.3 Sunday night I was so afraid of febrile seizures that I packed up both kids and ran to the hospital.

There, we discovered that the children, will in fact, survive. Nate has Sinusitis, or better put, a runny nose.

Next Kid: She's a little more messed up. Because her fever was so high Doc wanted a urinalysis and blood draw done. Blood Draw turned up a really hight white blood cell count, low iron, and borderline dehydration. Had Nate not been there sick with me, they said they may have kept her for observation.

Urinalyisis was a completely different issue, as they couldn't do one. Doc wanted a straight catheter put in, but the Nurse couldn't do it, because as we found out, Maddie has a "labial adhesion". This basically means her labia are "adhered together" and she may or may not have been born this way, but the bottom line is that kids who have this issue are more prone to Urinary Tract infections. So this poor baby could have been pissing fire for MONTHS and we never knew (how could we?) The mommy guilt of not realizing this sooner, is of course in full swing. I was assured however, this has nothing to do with cleanliness, it's most likely a hormonal issue.

On top of this, I didn't here the full word "adhesion". I heard "esion" and in my exhausted, frantic mommy state translated it into "lesions' and immediately was expecting a visit from DCFS because hospital staff thinks I hurt my baby.

Thank God her fever came down in the hospital, otherwise they were going to insert a needle thru her pubic area straight into the bladder to get a urine sample. All I could picture was an amniocentisis type needle plunging foot long into my poor baby. Needless to say, it was a long ride home.

The light at the end of the tunnel is that even if an ER visit wasn't really warranted, it's worth the money to find out about her issues "down there" because we would have NEVER known. I have 2 boys, their parts are easily identifiable for crying out loud!

Is there Anything Better...

Than 3 naked babies in the tub?

No More Markers

This happened a couple of weeks ago, with black Sharpie magic marker. Not only was it all over my children, it was all over the walls, and furniture as well. And Darlene, Thanks, that Magic Eraser is seriously the best invention ever. I don't know what's in it, and I do not care. My furniture is relatively marker free now....

Jack displays his self-imposed tatooes.
Check out THE BOTTOM OF THE FOOT. This little number got sharpie on my new carpeting.
Is Sharpie marker toxic at all?
I can't figure out how to flip the photo, but you get the jist. Nate was Jack's canvass for the day.
The words, "Hey mom, I look like a pirate!" are never a good thing to hear.
Keep in mind that during all this, both parents were home, tending to usual household duties. Also keep in mind that Body Art Part II took place yesterday as I was putting the little ones down for a nap. Jack now has purple spots on his torso and a purple belly button.
I really need to figure out how to clone myself and be 2 places at once....

Happy Easter!

The kids had so much fun with their dad. We had 9 colors to choose from when coloring the dozen we hard boiled. Every egg was different...how cool is that?

The Easter Bunny....

Came to our kids again, and again, and again, and again, and again. 4 1-Gallon freezer bags of chocolate and 12 milk chocolate bunnies (the 12 " ones or bigger that you can only buy in the fancy boxes) later these kids will be on a sugar high until they are 15 years old.

Do you think Women's Shelters, or food banks take chocolate, since it's not a non-perishable item (but how long would it last, really?)

Any ideas what to do with all this would be great!!!

Pelvic Pain

If you read my previous blog and followed the SPD link, I just want you to know that my pain is still present, but my initial Symphisis Pubis Dysfunction was most likely caused by misalignment in my pelvic floor (Thank you Gymnastics and dreams of being the next Mary Lou Retton).

My relief came in the form of physical therapy and cranial sacral realignment. I have been advised to never run for exercise purposes, and to stick with "water aerobics" by my physical therapist. It still hurts to lift one leg up to get dressed. It still hurts to sit to long and then move (which is why I am in constant motion, for those of you who know me). It still hurts to do a lot of things. It really, really does.

But how can I complain? I have 3 beautiful kids to thank for this problem, and really they are beautiful.

Laughing and Peeing

I wrote a comment on my friend's blog page. (www.weisswomen.blogspot.com) She wrote the funniest stuff about Susan Lucci (who I think really is about 100 years old), and I damn near pissed myself.

The experts and books do NOT tell you when "You Are to Expect When You are Expecting" That if you have symphysis pubis dysfunction

http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm

no matter how many kegals you do your body is never going to work right again. They do not tell you that 7 MONTHS postpartum if you sneeze, you pee your pants. They do not tell you that when you laugh because your out of state friend if freakin' hilarious you will pee your pants. They do not tell you in those expert books that if you have any inkling about going to the bathroom you'd better go NOW because you've got this problem that has had you in physical therapy for 3 years and it isn't getting better.

Anywho, I digress. If you can, read the blog about Susan and her microdermabrasion facials. Maybe you'll pee your pants too.

Exhibitionists, Nudists, and the Freakshows In Between

It never fails. I'm at the gym, doesn't matter what time, and there's always "that girl". You know the one. The one who is perfectly coifed, perfectly made-up, perfectly in shape (but not manly looking) wearing the perfect work-out outfit to show off her thongs thru very tight pants and wearing nothing but a sports bra.

Enter the exhibitionist, strutting her stuff around the gym for all of us stay at home moms to glare at enviously (no way with that flat of a belly she has kids, and then OOOPS! You see her at the child center picking up her 2 perfect children...DAMN!). And then you hear her say to her kids..."Let's get McDonald's. Or do you want Wendy's?" WHAT???!!! How does she suffer junky fast food and look so good and know she looks so good? WHAT????

Onto the Nudist (figuratively, not literally!) Twice now, I have encountered the boldest offender. The one who walks around the locker room in a way I can't even bring myself to walk around in my own bedroom when nobody's home. She doesn't care, she brushes naked, dries her hair naked, does naked makeup application, and then, at the last second decides that clothing in 32 degree weather is unfortunately, not optional. Today she was on her cell phone dropping F-Bombs like crazy. For this, there was only partial nudity, but still.

The gym nudists are either gorgeous, or brave. I like the brave ones myself. The flabby old ladies who really don't give a damn about who's checking out their bingo arms as they dry off, and shuffle (not saunter) from one end of the locker room to the next. It's almost like they might forget to put their clothes on, but their best friend Doris gives a nudge and they put on their polyester pants and go to Mick D's for a coffee with all the old men (by the way, what IS it with old men and McD's coffee?)

The gorgeous nudists leave the rest of us to stealing furtive glances-etiquette requires us to pretend we're not looking, even though it's exactly what they want. So I adjust my i-pod, or nursing pads or whatever frumpy mom get-up I have on that day and think "Damn! If I didn't have kids, I could SOOO look like that! Firm perky boobs! (Not droopy, breastfeeding bananas). Flat, toned Belly! (Not a stretch mark in sight). Unjiggly Thighs! (Leftover baby cellulite begone!).

And then I think of the poor "FreakShows", those clowns in the middle. The dorks you all grew up with... Oh, you know the ones. The ladies doing "Routines" on the treadmills. The guy doing some new Brazillian dance workout in the middle of everyone else trying to run their 5k's. The old man grunting and throwing out his back every time he lifts a heavy weight that he shouldn't. Bless their hearts for working out and all that jazz, however they should know that if they're not a nudist, or an exhibitionist, they are the 'freakshow' person just trying to get noticed.

And you thought I go to the gym to workout and better my health? No way, people watching rocks!

What. The. Hell.

Stole this link from another blog, as it's a newspaper column, I suppose it's legal.

http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2007-03-29/news/my-super-sweet-six/1

What. The. Hell.....

I Shoulda Been offended But...

Aforementioned dentist and I hit it off. He was a nice guy, telling me about his kids, etc. I'm guessing he was about 34/35 and he was impressed I had on the ball game on the tv in the room. So, automatically he assumes I know squat about baseball. I know enough to get by, I have my favorites (RANDY JOHNSON), but that's about all.

Anywho, this dentist who happens to be Korean starts talking about how he gets looked at funny because he's Asian, and when he went to Korea and saw a million people who looked just like him he figured "This is what it must be like to be white in America".

Back on baseball, I mentioned I like watching John Rocker play. He wasn't a stellar player, but he was crazy and looked like he had Tourrette's on the mound; which was entertaining as hell. JR made some racist comments and kinda got booted out of the majors, to which my dentist responded, "Yah, that guy was just a Cracker!".

I think I should have been offended, but this guy was hilarious. I was giggling and drooling, and my mouth was being drilled and gauzed and all that jazz, but I really liked the guy. Thank God I'm not sensitive, and I have a great sense of humor. He's probably a fun dad too, and just a cool guy to hang with. For some reason, I got a brief history of how he gambled at the races, and played some kind of poker game that could have won him a lot of money, but his full house lost to a better full house.

Just random stuff, but he was a REAL guy, not "Mr. I AM YOUR DENTIST AND I AM A DOCTOR AND I KNOW WAY MORE THAN YOU." Just a guy who gambles and likes baseball, and doesn't like Crackers. Now, when you're drooling and laughing and numb from the right half of your face to the back of your head, he's the guy to have around.

Seriously!

Asian Dude's Got Game

Had a filling redone yesterday by my new Asian dentist, and felt NOTHING. Until the novocaine wore off, and now the injection site is killing me. That I do not understand, since nothing else hurts. Just the joint in my jaw where the needle went in.

OH well, really love my new dentist. Wish he could be the one to pull out my wisdom teeth when I get to do that (not going to sleep for that either).

Can't wait til all the dental work nightmare is over.

Idiot

Conversation in the car on the way home from the library:

"Hey guys, how cool is this new Disney CD?"

"I like it mom".

"How about this song?"

(In a SCREAMING voice) "Turn on the other song. I liked it better. I don't like this one you IDIOT!"

Yes, my 3 year old (almost 4 but that doesn't make it any better) called me an idiot. You'd better believe he got a smack on the mouth (go ahead, call DCFS), time in the corner, was made to clean the family room, and has lost ALL t.v. privileges for the day. Oh, you'd better believe we also had a long talk about appropriate language and hurting people's feelings.

The sick part is part of me wanted to laugh in disbelief. My kid just called me a what? However, in order to learn a lesson about respect I couldn't let him in on that little amusement.

Still, he called me an IDIOT. What next?

Our Newest Trick

Nate has figured out how to get out of the crib, so in the last 20 minutes of writing, I've had to run upstairs and throw him back into bed about 6 times. He even woke up the baby, so now I have her and her sleepless self to contend with.

Granted, it took him 6 months longer to figure this out than Jack did, but I'm not ready for him to get a big boy bed. It's so funny that Jack was this same age and HAD to get one since Nate was on his way, but to me, Nate is so much more of a baby. Or maybe I just want to keep him that way.

I'm sure Maddie isn't far behind, as everytime she wakes up and I go in to check on her she's standing in the crib having herself a party. She is too tiny to want to be so big!

What happened to my sweet little babies?
: (

Welcome to the Top 3%

I hate being sick. Even moreso, I hate having had to have been on antibiotics 3 x's in less than a year. I never complain and go to the Doctor, but with 3 kids, when your down, you're WAY down, and I am just not a good mother sick.

Apparently, last week I was struck with a sinus infection. Everything tasted metallic, and my joints ached. Absent was what I thought would be a tell tale sign of sinus issues, pressure in the sinus cavities. Anyway, I didn't eat for about 3 days, nothing tasted good, and it hurt my stomach anyway. Feverish, I finally went to the Doc, who put me on a Z-pack for the 2nd time in about a month and a half. Being that I'm allergic to Penicillin and I'm breastfeeding Maddie still, there wasn't much of a choice. He did say my liver was inflamed. That's awesome.

Now on to the Z-Pack which promptly caused stomach upset, diarrhea, etc. Only 3% of people taking it experience these problems, and for once in my life I have reached the upper echelon of a statistic.

I think I've lost about 8 lbs in a week and I still don't feel right. I'm so tired of feeling like crap, and I haven't been a very good mom at all. I'm so tired and worn out and I don't know what to do anymore. I'm sure this is the life of every mother, but with anemia on top of getting up every night with a teething baby I am truly exhausted.

On top of all this, my dentist wants me to have my wisdom teeth removed, and I have a consult on Friday. They are all thru the skin and useable, but they have cavities, and I can't get my mouth open far enough to get them fixed, so apparently the only solution is to get rid of them. This means another round of antibiotics and possibly other drugs, which depending on when the surgery winds up being I will have to refuse due to nursing. Everyone says I should get knocked out, but I don't want that either, because I HATE having to pump and dump. Every woman who has breastfed knows that this stuff is like liquid gold, and I can't stand the thought of it going down the sewers.

Not to mention in the least, John can't take off ANY time from work, as he's totally busy lately, and how the hell am I going to have oral surgery and take care of 3 kids? Since it was my dentist's idea, maybe I should have him find a babysitter and pay for it.

Oh the dilemmas of a stay at home mom!

Tiny and Mighty

Maddie went into the Dr. again. She's snotty and nasty and after he cleaned the wax out of her ears, he decided she was fine, just in need of a decongestant. So I opted to get her those elusive 6 month shots.

I discovered on his computer program, that at her 6 month visit, she was in the 3rd percentile for weight. At this point in time, she's all the way up to the 7th percentile. I'm so used to the boys...Jack I know was always in the 99th for height and 90th for weight. Little miss is only in the SEVENTH percentile. YIKES!

Anyway, the nurse comes in to give her the shots with a nurse friend. After one shot, they had to go get ANOTHER nurse to help hold her down. That means me, 2 nurses holding, and one administering/holding down a peanut. Yup, she's pretty darn strong. That's awesome, I love it!!! She's gotta have something to hold onto to stand up to her brothers. GO MADDIE!

Just finished Reading...

"Broken for You" by Stephanie Kallos

AND

"The Swallows of Kabul" by Khadra something or other psuedonym.

Both excellent. "Kabul" makes me so grateful I don't live in the perpetual armpit of the world. We truly don't realize how blessed we are in this life.

I recommend them both.

Teeth

Miss M. cut her 3rd tooth in 8 days today. Top 2 bottom 1. She is miserrable, and I am sleep deprived. Thank God for Cabernet Sauvignon, otherwise I'd get no sleep in.

She still hasn't had her six month shots due to running "teeting fevers". She still doesn't weigh 14 pounds.

She is however, quite capable of standing up in her crib and holding onto the side and screaming at the top of her lungs. Yes, she pulls herself up to stand. It's like this little mini person midget thing that shouldn't have any bodily support because she IS so damn tiny standing up and yelling. It's almost surreal to watch, but it's also kind of funny.

She's growing up to fast. Someday, when I have a computer back that I can put photos on, I'll post some of these as evidence.

I promise.

An Actual Conversation

You cannot make this stuff up. Today, after school (actually around 3 or 4 ish):

"Mom, today at school Johnny peed on me".

'Johnny Doe, or Johnny Smith?'

"John Doe".

'Oh. Ooookkaaay. Where did he pee on you?'

"Right here" (Indicating Crotch area. NO WAY a 3 year old boy has THAT good of aim. NO freaking way).

'Hmmmm. It's still pretty wet. What did you say when Johnny peed on you?'

"I said, 'Do I look like a toilet to you?'

Thinking...Good comeback. I'll have to use it sometime.

'So, Jack, did you tell your teacher?'

"Yeah, she said, 'Boys, Come on now."

Great. So, my kid has a dribble accident, blames some poor other kid, and then invents a pretty decent comeback. I'm not sure what lesson I should teach here. I'm not sure there is a lesson to teach here, but if there is, hey, it'll come to me. After all, Do I look like a toilet to you?

You Paid What for What?

$16 for a tube of prescription toothpaste.

Oh, yes I did.

I have sensitive teeth.

WENDY'S

Does anyone else find the new Wendy's commercials funny? They start out talking about the chili and baked potatoes. The music in the background is a jumpy jive on a bass guitar, with no words. Let me tell you aboout the words. They are from a Violent Femmes song, the lyrics of which go, "When I'm a Walkin' I strut my stuff, and I'm so strung out. I'm high as a kite, I just might, stop to check you out".

Given that Wendy's is open late night, and they're advertising chili, the whole "High as a Kite" guitar riff cracks me up.

Love it.

A Light at the End...

Thanks Aunt Eileen, for reading my blog, and calling me the other day. She wanted to reassure me that she knows all will work out in regards to my photos. I'm a positive person, and things will work out for the best. It made me feel good to think that others view me as a positive person. I hope I give people the impression that I am positive, I don't really like to think negative things. What's the point?

The light at the end of the tunnel is that John realized he backed up the computer August 26th, meaning I have my baby's hospital photos. At this point, I'm missing everything else, but at least there were others who took photos, or we made a video of it (Jack's Thanksgiving program). Our pics may be findable still, but if not, I have the few that were the most important at least.

And so, I am on the mend.

Failing...Miserably at Parenthood

Yesterday, not a good day.

I was pulled aside by Jack's teacher and informed that he was "defiant" at school. Nasty to other kids. That's just not him, unless he's over tired or getting sick. At that moment of sheer embarrassment I just wanted to cry. I am failing as a mom. I can't discipline my kid. He's "THAT" kid in school. ( I was also very tired from being up with Maddie half the night before with the ear infection that won't quit too, so a bit emotional).

I made dinner. This really delish elaborate rigatoni Italian sausage bake. Fresh everything...basil, mozzarella, etc. My kids ate none of it.

I can't even fix them a meal they'll eat.

I put them all to bed at 6:30 and they slept until today at 5:30.

Maybe they were all just worn out.

I hope.

Oh, But I did

Going back to my previous lost picture post. In church on Sunday, during the time we're supposed to offer up our joys and concerns, I very seriously raised my hand (after about 3 OLD people said their friends cousin's nieces were having surgery) and asked the congregation to pray about my lost photos. A collective gasp went through the Sanctuary, and I'm willing to bet that every mother in attendence at the service wanted to cry for me.

One girl raised her hand and gave me hope, her husband may be able to help. We tried, to no avail.

Yet, you never know who has heard your heart break, or your plea for help.

John was incredulous that I actually raised that up for prayers in church. I don't care. People raise up prayers for people they don't even know. Pray for me and my broken heart.

You never know who can help.

SICK SICK SICK

I haven't been able to post in a while. To borrow my dad's phrase, our computer took a shit. The only problem is, it took a shit with all my baby's pictures on the hard drive that is unrecoverable. Her hospital photos...gone. First Christmas, gone. Baptism, gone. Yes, I should have backed them up, and nobody can beat me up about that more than myself, so I don't need a lecture on that. But, it makes me sick to know those memories are lost...or by some estimations lost for a fee of $2K.

What kind of mother does that? Already the child is neglected being number three, and now I can never forgive myself for what is lost.

I am truly heartbroken.

Crawling

It just seems as if this little peanut, who at 6 months doesn't even weigh in at 14lbs yet is too small to be crawling. But, ALMOST crawling she is...basically doing the army crawl.
Today while I was vacuuming upstairs she was trying her darndest to get up there with me. She had 2 arms and one leg up on the bottom step when she kinda did this rolling backwards thing. Then she got mad, but I was okay with that. She's too tiny to be going up stairs yet, isn't she?
She wants so bad to be so big like her brothers, and I find that painful beyond belief. Soon enough we'll be saying "bye bye baby" because she'll be a maniac toddler and into everything and I'll only have the millions of pictures I've taken to remember when she was just a wee little thing.
It makes me so, so sad.

The Brittney Mess

I am fully perturbed by this whole Brittney Spears "Thing". Excellent blogs have been written regarding her "issues" on www.weisswomen.blogspot.com, and www.momontherocks.com .

Here's my spin:
When we decided to have kids, it wasn't because "Hey, it's what you do when you're married", or "Hey, it would be fun to be a mom". (Although it IS fun). We both knew it would be a lot of work. A job full of sacrifices...I'd love to be furthering my career right now, collecting money in a 401k, but it's more important to me to provide a stable home for my kids, and a loving place for my husband to come home to everynight. Thus, I digress.

I made the decision to have kids with John based on several factors. I knew what kind of dad he would be. He would be home every night, some nights later than others, but that's because he's working his ass off so I can stay home and provide said stable environment for our kids. I knew he would provide for us and do the best he can for us as a family and what is best in the LONG RUN. Sure, I've been called cheap, but my 3 kids already have college savings accounts (not that they'll need them since they are all geniuses and will get academic scholarships....I'm not holding my breath for athletic scholarships...).

Back to Brit. The media spin on her recent craziness is that she could have some post partum issues going on, and 2 kids 13 months apart is really too hard blah blah blah and wahhhhh wahhhh!!! UM HELLO AND WELCOME TO MY CLUB!!!

I don't have the luxury of a NANNY getting up all hours with the kids.
I don't have the luxury of MAIDS keeping my shit clean.
I don't have the luxury of a BOTTOMLESS BANK ACCOUNT.
I don't have the luxury of being blessed with good looks and talent and a size TWO waist
probaby thanks to the luxury of my PERSONAL TRAINER.

Yes, I get it. I know Post partem depression is a chemical imbalance etc.... But it seems as if we claim poor poor Brit is just a VICTIM, then it seems as if she will never have to claim responsibility and absorb all that comes with the JOB of PARENTING!!! Did she not think it was going to be like this?

It just goes to show that money can't buy you any more than what money can buy you. And at the end of the day, who really needs more "things"? Obviously, they're not making some people very happy anyway.

Keep Your Pants ON!

Some people have to work at being funny. Some just are. Nate is one of those kids that are just funny. Here he's trying to wear his sister's fancy schmancy pink fur coat, for no other reason than it seemed like a good idea at the time. Lately we have been having a HUGE problem with Mr. Nate, also known as "El Tanko" (The Tank), Sasquatch, Bull in a China Shop, and Little Urlacher. He won't leave his pants on. We are constantly heard in this house shouting, cajoling, pleading, begging, and ordering, "Keep your pants on". We don't know why, but he's apparently most comfy in a t-shirt and diaper.

Last week I called my mom and said "Listen to this mess". Nate was screaming, almost tantruming. She kept asking "What did you do to that poor baby??"

"Poor Baby my ass....all I did was pull his pants up." It went on for about 5 minutes and I was laughing (without him knowing) while my mom told me I should crack him one. Had it not been more traumatic therefore effective to just pull his pants up everytime he pulled them down, I may have considered a swipe on the bum as an option. Otherwise, it was just fun to play the "You keep pulling them down buster, and I'll just keep pulling them up anyways" game.

He's a funny kid, like I said. We're just in trouble when he figures it out that sometimes we are in fact laughing AT him, not WITH him....

Oh well. C'est la vie!

Kids

Isn't she a vision of her father? Not John as a baby, but John now. What a peanut, Up on all fours at this very moment trying to crawl. No way, she's too little, and she's my BABY!!! For whatever reason, we have alot of photos of Nate eating. He's not exactly a "neat" eater.

Dressing up, as usual. Jack loves to dress up and be silly.
Anyone with kids knows that even though this isn't the greatest photo, it was simply painful to acquire. Painful.

We just Had FUN!!

John, Matt (our best man) and Saint Rene, Matt's fiance and the bride's best friend livin' it up. Mike, Woody, and DiNoff's--probably the best guys ever to sit next to at a wedding. Mike palmed one of the waiters a $20 so the liquor service didn't stop flowing at our table, however, Noff's and Mike found it necessary to "borrow" liquor from the cabinets in the cocktail lounge down the hall. We were well supplied for the hour long dinner.

Bride's bro Jeff and Me. He rocks.

The Jenny and John That I know...

Apparently, the old fuddy duddy married Jenny and John are not quite as fun as the "We Party Like Rock Stars" Jenny and John. As Matt (the Best man at our wedding, marrying the Bride's Best Friend in June) snapped our photos he said "Now, There's the Jenny and John that I know and love."

Yes, we still got it...That "Fun" gene. STill in us, despite 3 kids and 6 years of marriage later, we're still cool to hang with. Rock on!!
At our finest.....

On Weddings

A vision of a bride and groom, just living it up and having a GREAT time. I love it! Beautiful, even at 2 a.m.

We went to a GREAT wedding this weekend. Just Great..., and I got to thinking, what makes a wedding great? The food, the dancing, the liquor? No, It's all about the people. (But the liquor helps!)

Some people may get to attend one great wedding in their lifetimes, I've had the privilege of attending several...my college roommate's, my gradeschool best friend's, my friend Danielle's wedding, and recently Kristin and Jim's.

The bride was in a simple dress, and she looked beautiful. She had on a minimal amount of makeup, so she didn't look all "done up", and was a vision of pure, classic beauty. Note the above picture, taken at the END of a very long day for her I'm sure, and she still looks great. I'm more than slightly jealous.

The entire ceremony and reception you could tell they were just HAPPY. Happy to have everyone there celebrating with them, happy to be in love, happy to be sharing the beginning of their life together with everyone. They are two of the kindest, most generous people you'd ever want to meet as well. In lieu of favors they donated money to her school (she's a social worker for an alternative school in the burbs) so that a student could attend the school's summer program. That's just the kind of people they are.

I wish them all the best, and hopefully emulate their goodness. The world needs more Kristin's and Jimmy's!!!

Chocolate on The Brain

http://www.pushindaisies.com/candypress/scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=223

This gives new meaning to the phrase, eh?

How to Make Cheese

Step 1: Lose a sippy cup with Milk in it.

Step 2: Find sippy cup in Laundry room on top of dryer (assume heat helps).

Step 3: Open lost sippy cup to find coagulated milk byproduct and notice there is no foul smell, Oddly enough. The cheese is consistent with what cream cheese looks like instead of cottage cheese.

Step 4: utter a faint..."hmmmmm" and wonder if this will work for science fair projects in the future.

You Just Trap Them

At Church on Sunday, the minister called all the little kids up for children's ministry. The lesson was how to make someone feel welcome, or at home as they were inducting new members into the church. Jack likes to talk during these ministries, even though he doesn't quite know what he's saying.

So, when kids are answering "Tell people your name", "Be nice to them", "Introduce yourself to someone you don't know" Jack proudly raised his hand and told pastor "You could just trap them".

Maybe he does know what he's saying, since John calls churchs cults (too much religious ed in his childhood I think). Maybe we are all trapped every Sunday for an hour or so. Just something to think about.......

Everyone should see...

Little Miss Sunshine.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/littlemisssunshine/trailer/

What a good message it sends.... just let someone be who they are going to be, you can't protect them from hurts and disappointments. That is just life. A good movie for anyone, but especially anyone with daughters.

I loved the little girl in this flick, she's totally great. Now I know why I love those Indie movies so much. They have true artistic depth.

Love it.

I LOVE...

*The glass of wine I'm drinking.

* My morning coffee. Even decaff.

*That my husband really doesn't drink pop anymore and asked me to stop buying him the light juice because it still has aspartame sweeteners in it. Did you know that soda literally sucks calcium out of your bones? And who knows what chemicals are in just a regular pop these days, not to mention the "diet" formulations. I'm proud of him for being so health conscious.

* That tomorrow is Sunday and I have my postnatal pampered pregnancy massage scheduled. My hospital rocks.

I HATE

Teething as part of human development during infancy.

A Perfect Prone

Yesterday while I was at work getting therapy for my pelvic floor dysfunction and the fact that when I went to do a situps machine at the gym I literally felt my pubic symphysis bone shift and grind and move around (which by the way is EXTREMELY painful), a pediatric physical therapist who totally rocks, walked in, looked at Maddie, and said "What a beautiful prone position! Look at how strong she is pushing up. It's just beautiful!"

For those of you who are not PT's, OT's, Speechies, or DT's prone position is how you put a baby down for "Tummy Time". It was actually very funny that she was on her belly, when another therapist (a Speechie checking out if Nate needs an eval) walked in and said, "You know it's a therapist's kid. She put her right on her belly." Yup, I'm a therapist and my kid has perfectly beautiful prone positioning.

On to Nate. I'm still debating whether or not to get him a speech eval. My good friend came in to do a quick check on him and in 5 minutes he didn't say a word to her. I went through his list of words for her, reassuring that I'm not the kind of mom who would want him to look better than her is. But I still forgot some. He's got: Mama, moma (trying to say Oma, but it counts as a word in the speech world), Doc (jack), Ka(sock), Hot, Are you (as in "Jack, where are you" when we drop him off at school), more, milk, please, car, car noises (Vroom), cookie, juice, hot dog (which really sounds like Hk dg, but again, still counts) and yesterday at dinner when I was singing Old MacDonald, he totally knew the sounds for cow, pig, duck, and rooster.

My instincts tell me he's okay, but he's an ear infection kid, and I don't want to over look anything. Also a part of me is hating myself for comparing him to his brother who was speaking in complete sentences at this point in his development. But of course I'd compare them, right? Jack's my baseline, but he's a pretty high standard setting baseline so I'll just have to consider the whole speech eval thing a bit longer.....

Lick-A-Lish

That is how Jack says licorice....LICK-A-LISH. It's really cute. So cute, sometimes I even beg him to play Candy Land with me so I can hear him say "I don't want to land on Lord Lickalish". And then when he does, he goes "Whaa Whaa Whaaaaa" Like on a game show. It makes Candyland fun again.

In this photo he was helping my grandmother and I bake cookies. Actually, he made more of a mess than anything, but he likes to be helpful in the kitchen. All weekend long he helped my mom cook. Thank goodness he has short hair and can't burn it off like I did when I was little trying to cook/playing with the stove. For the longest time everyone thought I was a boy...Oh, the trauma of Grade school.

Reason 1,223 I don't really care about sports....

Is because apparently God does. Ever notice that players pray before, during, and even after big games. (I stress GAMES, you know, ENTERTAINMENT). They always say: God was with us for the win, or something corny like that.

I respect your right to believe in God. I'm not sure of an existence of one, but if there were, I cannot believe that HE/SHE really gives a damn about American College Football, or whatever sport you'd like to insert.

Stop telling media audiences "God carried us thru it". I would hope that if there is a God, there are more important matters to attend to.

Like, you know, a pointless war overseas where our youth keeps getting shot down by Godless infidels.....

Oh, Those Crazy Space People...

Guys, she wore a diaper for crying out loud. Hello institutionalization, goodbye NASA.

Credit where It's Due

I have to give the man credit. It seems as though I've been husband bashing a bit much lately, although my last post wasn't really bashing him, it was more the 4 Male uroligists at the practice and their protocol for surgical procedures. Apparently they don't work with many 5months postpartem moms of 3....

Anyway, yesterday while I was at work, he did all the laundry (and even put it away), which includes stripping the beds (I do it every week due to asthma and allergies) and re-making the beds.

He also did our taxes and cleaned the kitchen.

What a guy!

(I have to add here that he only had 1 kid and not 3 as the boys stayed with my mom, and it's amazing what you can get done when you don't have to chase after them. How did we EVER think 1 was hard?)

Again...what a guy!

Fun at our Ranch

I should've posted these before. The boys were all dressing up one day. Jack's a Doctor, Nate's a chef, and John is the Wizard. Nate would be an awful chef though. He'd never get the food served to others, he'd wind up eating it all.

Now for a truly funny photo. This is Brooke at Christmas looking at John. Everytime she looked at him, she had the same expression on her face. As in "What the hell is wrong with THAT guy." All I can say to her, is "Brooke, see above!" Poor Brooke is going to have to save Maddie from the Chaos of boys pictured above. Good luck to her.

MANVENTIONS

I swear to God, this was invented by a man.

http://www.motheringfromtheheart.com/Easy%20Expression%20Bustier.html

I saw an ad for it in a magazine. Why was it invented by a man?

1.) Women have enough to do. Now, not only can we provide nutrition for our infants, but we can do it "hands free" which allows us to multi-task, maybe throw in a load of laundry, or sweep the floor. Anything to make our domestic lives easier and give us more time to enjoy life, right?

2.) If I am given the task of having to either feed my baby, or pump in order to do so, I am taking MY GOD GIVEN RIGHT OF AT LEAST 20 MINUTES OF PEACE AND QUIET with the baby or pump instead of "multitasking". Most often this means plopping my happy ass on the couch and turning on Food Network. And I am OKAY with that.

3.) Seriously, just look at the contraption. There is no level of comfort in a pre-civil war type Bustier with breast pump shields sticking out. It's probably made of the most flexible whalebone too, just like corsets and such.

4.) Check out the advertising. Only a man would think that if a woman really wanted to engage in Hands free pumping, she'd just take a sit down and read her favorite trash mag and talk on the phone with our hair and make up done ever so casually.

Really, now they've almost gone too far.

Irony

Saturday night we had a rough night's sleep. John's sick, so he was up and down all night, taking Tylenol, etc. Nate was up off and on, and poor Maddie who's had a fever off and on since Thursday had a rough night.

How's this for irony though? The only one who slept thru it all was Jack. Solidly. Never knew anyone else was awake.

I'm giving credit to the brushing. Not to mention the trip to the swimming pool at 6:30 at night just to tire him out. Most of the credit though, goes to brushing. Maybe his insomnia is cured?

Funny Things

Today we went to a baptism. It was very very nice. At the following luncheon though, I saw the funniest thing, and I'm probably the only one who was amused.

Our hosts were gracious enough to cater to all the young kids by providing pre-lunch snacks of goldfish and fruitsnacks along with some juiceboxes. There were a ton of little kids, so I was rather amused when I saw a group of MEN talking, presumably watching their kids, but eating the snacks provided for their children. These men were also in a small gaggle, looking for all the world like they were gossiping.

I'm not sure why it amused me. Maybe because you'd never see a MOM openly eating her kids' snack. We're better at sneaking a few in here and there. Maybe because men complain so much about women talking and eating together all the time I was amused to see MEN and DADS nonetheless guilty of this crime. Maybe it was the mental picture of DADS scarfing down fruit snacks while MOMS and WOMEN were feverishly putting out some awesome food right behind them on the buffet table.

I was probably mostly amused at the time because women work so hard at social functions and it is truly the men who reap the benefits and enjoy themselves the most. Seriously, think about Thanksgiving dinner, or Easter, or whatever. MOMS cook, MEN eat and leave their mess. Ahhh, gender roles......today I found them funny. Perhaps it was the lack of sleep???

No Voice

I guess once every 5 years I am entitled to a dr.'s office visit. Prenatal exams don't count. However, since I haven't been able to speak since Saturday and have felt like crap off an on for about 2 months, I finally went in. He gave me an antibiotic and a prescription for voice rest. Because THAT works when I am the only one home and able to do anything for the kids all day.

Next thing I know, there will be a parenting law about how much you should talk to your kids, while you're not allowed to spank them.

A Good Dad

A good dad lets mom stay home to raise the kids. A good dad picks his socks up from the floor. A good dad loves his kids and takes them to swimming lessons. A good dad does laundry on Saturdays. A good dad cleans up the kitchen after dinner and gives the kids a bath when he's home.

But a GREAT dad plays dress up, and pretends to be the evil wizard. Does it get any better when you get to relive your own childhood?

P.S. Don't tell him I put this on here. He will kill me. He's a good dad, but NOT a saintly husband! And to be honest, if he did something like this to me, I'd be equally as pissed! But, he plays everything from dress ups to wrestle mania, so GAME ON!

Baby Girl

I can't believe she's already 5 months old. She still resembles an old man, what with the big ears, no hair, and no teeth. But, I love this picture. Such a happy baby girl! (Note the REALLY cute Ralph Lauren sweater that came as a gift. SSOOOO cute. Thank Macy's! I get lots of compliments on it).

Also note, this girl is a spitting image of her dad. Not her dad as a baby, but her dad as what he looks like now. It's almost uncanny.

Christmas Photos

I haven't posted pics in a while, and finally got around to dealing with the ones from Christmas. All 159 of them. These are from Christmas Eve at my sis in laws, Chris' house. She did an amazing job as a hostess. The food was amazing, and her house looked beautiful. She has done a wonderful job creating those happy childhood memories for my kids. Anyway....

Here is Miss M. and her favorite daddy. Not the best pic of each, but damn, don't they look alike? Here she is in her pretty girl dress. She liked to eat it more than anything. Tulle must taste good, but I'm sure it doesn't have any nutritional value.
This is the face of the kid who got the BEST GIFT from Santa (in the background) at Auntie Chris's house. What is better than a Power Ranger costume?

I LOVE this photo. The Trib had a Santa pictures photo contest on Christmas, and had I had this to enter I would have won. Note, big brother telling Santa everything he wants. Note little brother screaming in fear and trying to get away. And also note, Santa's death grip on the potential escapee. Awesome.

Where's the Baby?

My mom read a version of this story in the local paper to me today:
http://www.crimelibrary.com/news/ap/0107/1105_put_baby_oven.html

How the HELL is this child abuse and not some sort of, oh, I don't know, ATTEMPTED MURDER?

What drives someone to put their kid in the oven? I told my husband tonight that he can leave me if he's unhappy, but that doesn't mean I'm pulling a Hansel and Gretel and throwing the kids in the oven so he'll want to come crawling back to my crazy ass.

Sometimes, there is so much goodness in this world, and then this comes up to remind us that we have hearts that are meant to be broken. I never dated in high school, so my heart was pretty much in tact until I got married and had my own kids. Missing Prom doesn't hold a candle to the cruelty that exists, and it just makes me so, so sad.

Go Bears!

Yay. They won. Shootin' and lootin' in the city and suburbs. And I'm sure my brother already owns some sort of NFC Champ paraphanalia, be it a hat or t-shirt. It IS 3 hours post game, so the hat freak has had to have gotten something supporting his favorite team.

Where's the Superbowl party going to be? I'll bring the Cheeze Wiz.

Brushing

I wish I could go on a diatribe about hair brushing. However, the only hair that gets consistently brushed in this house is my own. I am at that wonderful post partem stage where all my hair is falling out, in rather large clumps at that. Since Nate was 4 months old when I got pregnant with Maddie, I never got to that point after his delivery, so now it seems I am losing twice the amount of hair I did with Jack. It's everywhere, and kind of freaking me out. You turn 30 and start losing hair, it has a psychological effect.

Yet, my title has nothing to do with hair brushing. With the guidance of a trusted Occupational Therapist that I work with, I have begun brushing Jack. This means I have a little plastic brush with relatively soft bristles that I rub up and down his arms, legs, and back a few times. Then I do joint compressions, and give him a heavy load of physical work to do, such as wheelbarrow walking around the house, or lifting my laundry baskets for me. The idea is to help regulate his sensory system and get his sleep regulated. I think in my former life, after I was a Chinese woman, reincarnated into a slave during the civil war, I was reincarnated into an OT because I LOVE all this sensory processing stuff. So far, brushing every 2 hours may be working for the little rat. He even took a nap today. We'll keep it up and see how it goes.

Still debating about going to a psychologist. What the hell are they going to tell me anyway?

There are just No Words

For the following website.
http://www.birthdayswithoutpressure.org/

I remember my 6th birthday party. We ate Cheetos out of big Tupperware bowls and played Red Rover Red Rover. I'm sure there was cake. That was it. No limo for me and my friends, and it was OKAY.

My mom may have splurged on party hats, not diamond tiarras. Whatever happened to the good old days?

I for one, refuse to keep up with the Jones's.

I Am Not THAT Crazy

Sometimes, maternal instinct is amazing. I took Jack and Maddie to our Doc. Jack has an upper respiratory infection, Maddie sinus infection. Fine. Any other questions? Why yes doc, as a matter of fact there's this little matter of a sleeping problem with Jack....

Hmmmm.... Mmmmhmmm. Yes, well, I'm not comfortable telling you this is nothing, as it has been going on for a while. He could just be one of those kids that don't need sleep. OR, he could be a pathological insomniac. I think you need to see a Child Psychologist to get to the root of the problem.

A WHAT???? Child Psychologist, for a 3 year old pathological insomniac??

http://pn.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/40/5/27

All evidence of what causes insomnia points to no bedtime routine, or one not being enforced. Let me tell you, it is NOT a free for all here. There is consistency, and routine. I am the routine Nazi and it has not helped.

So, what now? Do I take my kid to a psychologist and hope for answers? I am NOT looking to medicate, just for some organic answers, maybe do we need to do deep diaphramatic breathing? Or muscle relaxation techniques? I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.

And my worst fear? We go in to see the psychologist, and everyone finds out that I am the YELLING mom, who (gasp) has occasionally resorted to spanking. So my pathological insomniac son has mommy taken away from Mr. Child Protective Services? No way.

Because, in the end, it's all about me and how I look to the public, right?

Insomnia

As of late, I am wondering if a 3 year old can be an insomniac, as the one I currently reside with is NOT sleeping. He is up and out of the starting gates between 5:30/6 a.m., not napping (even after swim lessons) and when put to bed between 7 and 8 p.m., he will toss and turn forcing himself not to relax and sleep.

Saturday he was up until 11. That's 3-4 hours of being in bed, being yelled at to stay in bed, and being threatened beyond all things "special" to stay in bed. John and I were trying to sleep, and this kid was still up ready to party.

Thursday morning he woke at 1:30 and did not sleep until bedtime at 8:00. I am not kidding.

Now, I have consulted the Dr. on this. He has no advise because, as I informed him, I have a solid bedtime routine. Throughout the day, I've tried: No nap, early nap, late nap, shorter nap, longer nap, earlier bed, later bed, timers/alarm clocks, busy activities (ie: swimming which wears out any other normal kid). I've tried diet modifications, going organic, no juice (which they don't get anyway) and no sugar or sugar like foods after 4 p.m.

So, if anyone has any enlightening ideas, I'd love to hear them, and mom, Tylenol did not work. I even tried that. So, help would be nice.

Thanks.

Imagination

This is what Jack does when he gets creative. He took his car seat, put it on top of his laundry hamper, and declared that he was a lifeguard at the swimming pool at the gym.

Here is he is, blowing the whistle.......

Having been a lifeguard for about 10 years, I'd say he has the "bored" expression typical to lifeguarding down pat. As I got older, the "bored" expression was really the "hung over don't really care if you drown" expression that I learned to disguise with sunglasses. However, I must say I'm proud of his ingenuity. How does he come up with stuff like this???

He Had a GREAT Time...And Now I say ITS OVER BUD!

While John went away for the weekend (sorta a Christmas present from me-he flew first class on his dad's buddy pass) to Myrtle Beach for a friends 30th birthday my children decided to be sick, crabby, and cutting teeth. I do not have any grey hair yet, but my sanity is draining slowly. Can I plead insanity in court when one day I just walk out and go to Target for a while? You won't call DCFS on me, right?

I give the man credit, I do. All last week he worked from 5 a.m. until about 11 p.m. Apparently at his multi-kajillion dollar company with 80 bajillion employees, he is MOST useful. Unfortunately, when he works like that, he is useless to me. Any stay at home mom whose children are up at 5:30, do not nap, and go to bed around 8 knows what a LONG ASS day without a break that is. But, he needed a recharge from work and home, hence the trip out east.

However, hubby called earlier today to inform me he was keeping his weekly raquetball appointment after work today. Uh, Hello? I am coming down sick again (probably never got better, and lack of sleep makes it worse), the kids are beastly (still cutting molars with rampant ear infections), you have been pretty much absent in their lives for over a week, and you NEED to play raquetball?

Oh no sir. Oh no. The party is over, and I mean it.

I guess I'll just have to put the proverbial foot down when he gets home tonight.

From Raquetball.

POOOP! MOMMMYYYY!!! POOOOOOP!

Never a good sign when above phrase is shouted across the house as 3 year old is trying to get ready for bed and Godzilla is running from room to room laying rabbit turds in a trail behind him, while lauging hysterically. Rephrase...smelly little balls of rabbit turds. And guess whose job it was to clean that mess up? I am currently blogging, ipod-ing (the new bane of my existence) and drinking a beer waiting, oh waiting for their Daddy to come home.

Supposedly the Happy Crapper has such a bad ear infection that I'm supposed to be grateful he doesn't have a perforated ear drum. Really doc, well when he's dancing in the middle of a pile of rabbit turds laughing hysterically as if this is some kind of game he doesn't seem very sick and in pain to me.

And now, I have to refill my beer.

Missing Jewelry, Vacations, and Hair Care

http://men.msn.com/articlebl.aspx?cp-documentid=1022245

According to this article, I'm due a LOT of jewelry (I get some from Hubby once every 5 years pretty much), Vacations (Before Napa last year, our only other vacation has been our honeymoon), and hair styling. I get my hair cut once every 4 months or so and refuse to spend more than $25 to do so. It is only hair after all.

Everything else on the list is lacking, of course but the big ticket items are what stand out. I guess I'm just a cheap date. Or I have kids which makes everything on that list irrelevant or impossible. Expensive dinners to apologize? I don't even know what those two phrases in the same sentence MEAN!

Oh, and I don't have a dog. Cleaning up CRAP after 3 kids is enough without a butt-licking furry friend around thankyouverymuch. Does this mean that I can use that 63 K as a discretionary fund for the next 44 years?

Ladies, how do you fare?

No Resolutions

I am not making any resolutions for the new year. I decided this at Yoga, when my yogi wisely said (paraphrased of course) "If you're making resolutions, you are saying that you are lacking something in this life. Honor your past accomplishments, look at all the good things that have come to you and be true to yourself. Don't make resolutions for change, just make more mindful choices of what you eat, and the person you are."

So, no resolutions. Just more mindful choices for health and happiness. A ton of good things happened this year, Maddie came into our lives, John got a clean bill of health (no cancer!), Nate turned one, and Jack turned 3. We attended more weddings and saw more births than funerals, and we only had one hospital stay for one sick kid this year. We were blessed in '06, and here's hoping '07 brings as much happiness!!!

A Dad-ism in Action

My dad rocks. This is him holding Maddie. We sometimes call him the Ninja because he disappears radomly and we don't know where he is. All in all though, he's a pretty handy guy to have around.

Anyway, to put a dad-ism into real world useage, today my refrigerator took a shit. Nothing is staying cold in it. John jimmy rigged it to work over the holiday, but he jazzed it all up and I think we need a new one. I tried calling dad for advise, but I couldn't find him today, oh well. John fooling with electronic things is a little scary, but hopefully this will make do. Dad can check it out before church tomorrow, I hope.

Oh, and dad, if you read this, thanks for putting in my new hot water tank when my old one took a shit.

Like I said, he rocks.

More Grandma-isms

You know it's a going to be a great day when a classic Grandma-ism is uttered by one of the 6 year olds you work with. This happened to me on Saturday.

I was helping the kids do a puzzle, but told them to switch a couple of pieces because they were "jazzed up". The kids said, "Yah, Miss Jen, it's sorta all jazzed up." This was one of those "you touch more lives than you know" moments. Grandma will never know the kid, but the kid will always have Grandma's phrase to use at will.

I originally thought the phrase "jazzed up" came from my dad, but he gives credit to Grandma, so there you go. If we're talking phrases my dad made up, I think my favorite of his happens to get used when something is broken. When said item is broken, it "took a shit" figuratively speaking. As in, "We need a new dishwasher, our old one got jazzed up and took a shit."

Grandma does have other good phrases though. I personally love the term "crap-shit". This term is to be used liberally over the holiday season, as in: "Look at all the crap-shit that's on sale at Walmart." I am sure that 90% of my kids gifts from Santa and others will be crap-shit as well. Say it out loud, it just makes you smile. Double entendre or not, crap-shit is just fun.

The last Grandma-ism for the day is "Dorky-dork". I enjoyed this term this past Thanksgiving when she refered to my dad as a dorky-dork. Not only is he a dork (a term not used enough past the 70's for sure), but he's also dorky on top of that. The man who still ownes and wears a pair of Bear's Zubaz pants is indeed, a "Dorky-dork".

Feel free to use any of the above. Somehow someday they'll make it into Webster's. Hey, you never know.....

She found em!

Maddie found her feet. Don't they look delish?
So sweet and innocent, and she's a peanut too. According to the charts, she's 90th percentile height, 30th for weight. Her features are more petite than the boys too. I don't know what to do with this tiny baby girl. She takes after her dad's side of the family for sure!

Betcha didn't know

That the Star of David did not lead to Bethlehem. It led to my backyard. Though the pics are Grainy (hey, it's a holy star), this is what I see when I look out my kitchen window. Yes, the lighted strings extend over several houses and multiple yards are used to support the thing. O Holy night. The star is brightly shining...in my backyard.

A 3 yr. Old's Special Christmas

Last week I sent Jack out with my sister in law to pick out ornaments for his teacher's Christmas gifts. With things like this, I like to let Jack make his own choices, that way, the gift is truly from his own heart. For whatever reason Miss Rose HAD TO HAVE the cowboy Santa. It is still unclear as to why.

This is the star of the Christmas show at school. Everyone was dressed in holiday style. Not Mr. Individuality. I let him choose his own clothes in the morning. Yellow sweats on a cold day, though not festive was quite appropriate.
He's going to have an awesome Christmas. He's getting everything he wants, save for a Light Saver like Dark Gator has. He doesn't need assistance with weaponry, he turns sticks in the backyard into swords, and he certainly cannot have a toy from Star Wars, which he's never even seen.

Still, to be a kid again and get everything you want. Now THAT'S Christmas.

He said WHAT???

Yesterday I had to pump because the Divine Miss M was sleeping so much. I was informed by my 3 year old that "Mommy, your Boo Boo's do an excellent job getting squeezed and making milk for Madilynn. Excellent, mommy. Excellent".

Oh, and did you know that Baby Cheeses went to sleep in a nature up in Heben? He did Mommy, he did.

Everyone knows Nate

This is funny, really. Today, I rushed Jack to school and was getting ready to rush Maddie to the doc when my good friend Jenny said she'd take Nate to play with her little one. It worked out perfectly, and according to her, he was fine. I still think she's making part of that up, he's a boy, they get ornery.

Anyway, upon rushing back from the doc to see Jack's Christmas program in time, I met Jenny back at school. We were sitting together watching our children and conversing when she casually threw in an "Oh, by the way. Nate bumped his head in the playroom, but I didn't see a bump or blood." I was amused, only because everyone is just a little nonchalant now about Nate and his damn head wounds. He IS fine, really. And I'm glad he did it at her house because if ever I were questioned about abusing him, I can send DCFS directly and "do not pass go" to church, the gym, my grandmother, and my friend Jenny.

It is a relief that if he's going to hurt himself, it's not always on my watch. So says Mom of the Year.

Sick kids

Every one of em. Thank goodness there's only 3. Jack has pharyngitis and upper respiratory issues, Nate has an ear infection, and Maddie at the moment is only viral.

This however, has not stopped Jack from trying to sneak marshmallows and chocolate chips for breakfast. Here's dummy me telling the doc that "yah, his appetite has been low lately". Well DUH! It's because he is up at 5:30 sneaking the marshmallows you bought to have family bonding time and make Rice Krispy treats with. Just like the commercials, I had planned on spending loving, quality time baking with my boys and licking batter. I can hear the music in the background..."oooh, oooh, oh, somewhere over the rainbow...."

Nope! Plans ripped to shreds with evidence of gnarled Marshmallows which have now gotten hard from all the teeth holes in the bag. The tune continues...
"Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the KIDS are far behind me...where troubles TURN INTO lemon drops and I get to take a hot shower...somewhere over the rainbow"

Bliss.

The best smile

I haven't posted any photos of Miss M. lately and these are already a month old, but she has a great smile and laugh, even if she has the look of a balding old man. My mom gets mad because I call her Larry. When her hair is drying the little fuzz on the sides stick out and she looks like Larry from the 3 Stooges. The other day my sis in law took Maddie's baptism photo home and remarked how much like her father this kid looks. She does. And sometimes it's scary. She's a Mini John.
Madilynn seems so tiny to me compared to the gigantors the boys were at her age, but Hubby's family are like little Irish Leprechauns. They're all short and tiny, but have the biggest, most fun personalities. His Grandma was a firecracker for sure, and sometimes I ask Maddie if she's Grandma C reincarnated. Usually she laughs at me or smiles big, but I'm sure she really doesn't know what she's so smiley about...or maybe she does.

That's okay though, John's grandma rocked and I miss her. I just hope that if my daughter's genes truly carry from that side of the family that she has the spitfire in her that all the women on that side do. She's going to have to contend with these boys somehow!!!

Refreshed on Mexican Food

Tonight I went to a wedding shower in the city at a Mexican restaurant, near Wrigley, in fact. It was awesome, we had Mexican food, Margaritas, and Dos Equis beer. There were about 30 women there, and I got to catch up with some friends I hadn't seen in a long time. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this upcoming wedding for my friend. Kristin was such a Godsend when I got married, she was a HUGE help.

I have been very blessed to have such awesome friends, but that's neither here nor there. This was probably the best shower I've ever been to, very laid back and casual, people got to talk to one another and have good conversations, and the food was Awesome. Watching her open gifts made me want to get married all over again, mostly so I could get some new stuff. I will NEVER go through what I went through when I got married again. Next time I'm eloping.

In fact, I wanted to elope (and now I'm rambling), or at least get married somewhere tropical, on a beach maybe with a bonfire and a pig roast. Hubby of the Year however, wanted to do the traditional thing, and I still am not sure why. To this day he says he wishes he could have spent more money so that it was a little nicer (for me). He was 23 and we did the best we could since we paid for most of it ourselves. It was fine.

Besides, I didn't need a HUGE beautiful wedding, (although it turned out perfect for me). I wound up with a beautiful marriage and 6 years and 3 kids later here we are (Our anniversary is next Saturday) still having a good time and waiting for the "hard" part of marriage to kick in.

So now that I have been refreshed with good food and conversation, and a bout of writing, I'm going to stagger exhaustedly up to bed.

Buenos Suertes!!!

Thoughts and Prayers

I heard two things today that made me thank God for my blessings. I may not have anything to wear to my friends shower Saturday, I may only have one pair of jeans that fit, but I have 3 normal, healthy kids. I've got a million dollar family, really, and when I think of all the "THINGS" I'd like to have that I don't, I just remember what I do have and I am grateful.

I got an e-mail from a friend whose husband is very ill with viral encephalitis. I won't say her name, but I will ask for prayers. She has 2 young kids, babies really. Please keep her in your thoughts, hopefully the power of prayer will work and everything will be just fine. Having been thru Super Hubby's cancer scare recently, I can imagine how she feels and my heart is with her.

That is, my heart is with her if it can be torn in a million pieces thinking of a little girl at Jack's school (not in his class) who was found to have an AVM.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arteriovenous_malformation

SHE IS FOUR YEARS OLD!!! She is having BRAIN surgery twice later in this month. And my husband and I thought it was a crisis that our STUPID TREE FELL DOWN!!! How awful are we??? Granted, we didn't know, but our problems are so so small. It is true that the Lord only gives us what we can handle because the worst I could handle was 2 kids hospitalized with Rotavirus, not BRAIN DISORDERS!! Think of her, please, and if you believe in a higher being (which I do, but question my beliefs on God and all that...another blog) pray pray pray for this little soul, and count your own blessings when your family sits down to Christmas dinner that someone YOU love is not in the hospital fighting for either their life or some semblance of normalcy from what their life used to be.

Thanks.

Success!!!

The tree is up. I did it today with a little help from Captain Jack. Yesterday/last night was a different story...

It was seriously like something from a movie. Daddy-Oh thought he could at least get the tree up himself. I came home from grocery shopping to some seriously dirty looks. I had to throw some things in the freezer and proceed to breastfeed, so Daddy had to put the rest of the groceries away. The tree fell. Water and gunk were all over our new carpet.

True to Clark Griswold and the Dad in a Christmas story I think I heard mutterings out of my husbands mouth that in 30 years on earth I've never heard before. I'm not sure I understood what some meant. He actually told Jack that the tree fell because he (daddy) put in new carpet. I was nursing and trying to hide giggles behind my hand, because no holiday is complete without a semi-disaster. I half expected him to run across the street and saw the neighbors tree down and have to chase squirrels out of my living room all night.

Karma got me though, Nate crapped in the tub and had to clean it up. HE thought THAT was funny. Ugh!

Injury of the Day (A Report)

Life is a dangerous sport for Nater Tater lately. In fact, after I told my mom about his latest head injury, she told me I shouldn't be taking him to the grocery store, people are going to think I abuse him. Since he's had 2 incident reports written on him in less than 24 hours, I feel relatively safe rom being arrested at least. However, there are those "questioning glances".

An Explanation:

Yesterday (Sunday) we did our usual routine of running out the door 5 minutes later than we should to get to church. I always take the kids into the sanctuary for the first 15 minutes, after which time Pastor does a children's service, and my kids go to the nursery to play. After church Jack goes to Sunday school, (which incidentally he missed yesterday). All was going well until I took communion and on heading back to my pew, the nursery babysitter came to get me. She was young, but her mom who runs it was there, so I felt safe leaving the kids. Poor Nate had fallen and hit his head. NASTY bump.
So Nasty we almost went to the ER because I was afraid of a skull fracture.

However, I knew he was okay when he broke free from my loving embrace (to hold on an icepack) to eat the donuts that the old people put out for "fellowship" time.

He's fine, by the way. Pastor called last night to see how he was doing, and so did the Nursery Lady. We win an award for sustaining the first injury in the nursery. They never saw my boys coming.

Explanation 2: I try to take the boys swimming every Monday since John works from home. Went early today and was mid-exercise class when the gym babysitter came to tell me that Nate bit his lip and now has a swollen, bleeding lip. Nice.

So, not only does my baby have a head wound he also has a fat lip. As I said, my butt is covered thanks to incident reports. Otherwise, with such an accident prone kid, I may be writing my next blog from the confines of a Child Protective Services Lockdown facility.

Merry Christmas, right?

The Tree

I just wanted to let everyone know that 8 days after sawing down an evergreen in the middle of a forest it is still sitting in my garage undecorated. The goal is to get it up today. Just letting you all know. Christmas Queen is having a tree crisis.

I don't wanna get off on a rant here....

But I really do. There are just things that have been bugging me to no end.

Like, what the HELL is the BIG deal with this Barak Obama anyway? I get it. He's an Illinois Senator who may run for president. I don't know about other states, but this dude is EVERYWHERE. On Oprah. On the news. On Entertainment Tonight. In the papers. On the radio. ENOUGH!!! He's a senator who doesn't seem do be doing any "senating". Just traveling around signing his stupid books. What does he stand for as a Senator anyway? What's he accomplishing in Washington if he's traveling around writing and signing books? Get off your high horse, and do something other than talk about how awesome your trip to Africa was. Be an effective representative for me, will ya?

And another thing. Occasionally I will flip on the t.v. during the day, maybe catch 2 or 3 minutes of Oprah, or the View. Oh, the View. ROSIE. I personally have had ENOUGH of her and can't stand to even think about turning that show on. She dominates every conversation. She interrupts the other hosts. All she can talk about is how everything goes back to being a lesbian and frankly, Rosie dear, I DON'T GIVE A SHIT!!! It's not all about you and your oppression. You are not a good example of a "strong woman with a voice." You're a has been trying to come back. Do something other than thinking you're so cute and funny. Stop calling grown men "Cutie Patooties". You, Rosie, are annoying and are ruining the show. Take that Barbara Walters!!

And really, ENOUGH with Kanye West!! Do you REALLY think that DUBYA hates blacks, or were you just trying to make a stupid statement and sell records? I've heard the non radio approved lyrics to "Golddigger". Do you really think that they're appropriate to be spitting out and then claim WHITE MAN RACISM? Why aren't more people pissed about this? Seriously! I'm with the Dixie Chicks on this one. Practice Freedom of Speech all you want, but then don't go and complain that WHITE MAN keeps you down and then go and use that N word about 800 times in a 3 minute song. Gain some self respect Mr. West. And I'm pretty sure DUBYA doesn't hate blacks, but after your comment, I wouldn't blame him for having personal issues with you. Don't get me wrong on this either. I'm not a DUBYA fan lately. I too,am embarrassed he's from Texas. Hell, at this point I'm also embarrassed I voted for him and feel like a lot of innocent American TEENAGE blood is on my hands thanks to our crappy war in Iraq policy, but that's another rant.

Right now I'm just hoping the war ends before I have to think of sending my beautiful baby boys to Canada (I don't care if it's illegal, I WILL do it). DUBYA and his crappy war are not laying hands on my flesh and blood, especially since we don't know what we're fighting for anymore anyway.

In conclusion, in the words of the wise Forrest Gump: That's all I have to say about that.

Until tomorrow at least.
